Location: Richmond, VA
The General Assembly Building, located in Richmond, VA, originally had four different architectural styles. Projected for completion in 2021, the lower four floors of the 400,000 square-foot building. The original structure facade built in 1912 was kept intact while the rest of the building has been demolished. The design emphasizes a stepped exterior to mirror other traditional architecture found in Richmond.
Isolatek International’s recognized applicator, American Coatings, was elected to the project. CAFCO 300 HS / ISOLATEK Type 300 HS & CAFCO 400 / ISOLATEK Type 400 were applied to protect the General Assembly building. CAFCO 300 HS / ISOLATEK Type 300 HS a gypsum-based, Wet Mix Spray-Applied Fire Resistive Material specifically designed to provide high bond strength. CAFCO 400 / ISOLATEK Type 400 is a Portland cement-based formulation that protects virtually any environment where a medium density material is specified. The thermal performance advantages of CAFCO 400 / ISOLATEK Type 400 result in decreased installed expenses and render industry-leading physical performance and application efficiencies that are unequaled. Both products have outstanding, cost-effective thermal performance, provide up to 4 hours ratings on various building areas, and contribute to LEED Credits.
The new construction will include a cafeteria, spaces for committees, and subcommittees. There will be public spaces for people coming to visit and observe the General Assembly. When finished, there will also be a tunnel connecting the building to a parking garage.
