Location: Detroit, MI
In the 1900s, Hudson’s Site was an iconic landmark known as Detroit’s J.L. Hudson’s department store. The new Hudson’s Site will be the second tallest building in Detroit behind the Renaissance, featuring a 5-star luxury hotel with 227 rooms, a 21,000 square-foot outdoor plaza with market space and public art, 150 residential apartments with a publicly accessible rooftop terrace, several floors of office space, and event venues spanning 126,000 square feet. The nearly $909 million building will be completed by the end of 2024.
Recognized applicator, Saylor, Inc, applied CAFCO 3000 & CAFCO 400 to the steel on this project. CAFCO 3000 & CAFCO 400 meet the current International Building Code (IBC) 1000 psf bond strength requirements for buildings over 420 ft high and provide up to 4-hour fire-resistive ratings. CAFCO 3000 is an ultra high strength, gypsum-based wet mix Spray-Applied Fire Resistive Material (SFRM) with superior fire resistive performance per unit thickness, making it cost-efficient and allowing for high yield. CAFCO 400, a medium density, Wet Mix SFRM, is designed to provide fire protection for structural steel where higher levels of physical abuse or traffic are anticipated. CAFCO 400 also meets or exceeds all major fire protection specifications for Commercial Structures, including ANSI/UL263, ASTM E119, CAN/ ULC-S101. CAFCO 400 offers LEED building credits for recycled content and the best fire resistance performance per unit thickness. The portland cement-based formulation has proven its durability through the harshest of tests, ensuring the protection of Hudson’s Site.
